PARTICIPATE IN RECOVERY VOICES COUNT:

Recovery Voices Count is one part of our national movement to make it possible for even more of our friends, neighbors and family members to experience long-term recovery from addiction by building recognition of the recovery community as a constituency of consequence. As recovery community organizations and recovery advocates register voters, educate candidates for public office about key issues and turn out voters in growing numbers, we will have an even greater impact on the lives of people who still need help with their addiction, people in long-term recovery, their family members and communities.

Founded in 1944, by Marty Mann, the first woman to get sober in Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), NCADD is the oldest advocacy organization addressing the disease of alcoholism and other drug addictions.  NCADD is dedicated to increasing public awareness and understanding of the disease of alcoholism and drug dependence.

Nationally, NCADD focuses on education, awareness, policy and advocacy.  Locally, through our National Network of Affiliates, NCADD provides direct assistance to individuals and families affected by alcoholism and drug addiction through information and referral, community-based education and prevention, training, intervention, treatment, recovery support and

advocacy services.

WHY WE WALK...

We walk to raise awareness of the serious disease of addiction and to help remove the barriers to recovery for those who are currently struggling with alcohol and drug addictions through funds raised for the Caron Treatment Centers Adolescent Scholarship Fund.

Many people do not understand that addiction is a disease-not a moral failing or character flaw. With more than 23 million Americans addicted to drugs and alcohol, this disease has become America’s #1 healthcare crisis. These millions suffering do not have the income to cover the desperately needed treatment and to make matters worse most health insurance companies do not cover comprehensive addiction treatment. In fact, only 2 million of those suffering will receive treatment.

"I would like to express my deep gratitude to all of you for your incredible generosity. Without the scholarship I would never have been able to get the help I so desperately needed here at Caron. My time here has given me a second chance at living my young adult life. The knowledge I have gained and the experience I have had is the foundation for my new beginning." Mark D

THE NEED IS CRITICAL...

  • According to the surgeon general there are 11 million underage drinkers in the United States. Each year, 5,000 deaths are linked to teen drinking. The study also found an astonishing20 % of 14-year-olds in the United States have been drunk at least once.
  • Alcohol and drug abuse costs the American economy an estimated $366 billion per year in lost productivity, health care expenditures and crime.
  •  Among those who felt they needed treatment but did not receive it, 44% attributed to cost or insurance barriers.
